Itinerary
Central Georgia has plenty to offer the curious traveler. Be it a taste of medieval monastic life in a fantastical cave town setting in Vardzia, the resort town Borjomi with its acclaimed mineral waters, that put small town Akhaltsikhe on the map, each town provides a glimpse of Georgia's past and present that you will not find elsewhere in the country. On this one-day tour, you will travel to the cave town (Vardzia), old-world monuments, and Borjomi Mineral Water Park, all with varied landscapes. Also Head to Borjomi, a volcanic, mountainous region traversed by ravines, lakes, mineral springs, and fast-moving rivers.
Your adventure begins at the ancient cave city of Vardzia, a 12th-century marvel carved into the slopes of the Erusheti Mountain. As you explore the site, you will discover a network of caves, including a bell tower, a church, chapels, and even wine cellars. The complex rises to nineteen tiers, offering breathtaking views and a deep sense of history. While Vardzia is primarily known for its medieval history, excavations have revealed that the area was inhabited even during the Bronze Age. Vardzia has been proposed for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a Cultural Site.
After exploring the historical sites, you will head to Borjomi. Borjomi is a charming resort town in south-central Georgia on the outskirts of the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park. The town is renowned for its mineral water, Georgia's primary export, the Romanov summer palace, and the World Wide Fund for Nature site Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park. Additionally, Borjomi is home to the largest ecologically themed amusement park in the Caucasus.
