Itinerary
Join your professional and enthusiastic guide to explore the remains of the ancient city of Mycenae, a key center of Greek civilization from 1600BC to 1100BC, and discover the archaeological treasures of Epidaurus. This fascinating full-day tour lets you walk in the footsteps of the ancient Greeks while also being environmentally friendly.
Start your adventure from our terminal, traveling along the coastal National Highway to the Corinth Canal, where you will have a short stop. After visiting the canal, you will enter the region of Argolis, home to Homer’s Golden Mycenae, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Mycenae, dating back to the second century B.C., was one of the most important centers of Greek civilization and a powerful military stronghold in southern Greece. Skip the lines and explore the archaeological site, where you will visit the kingdom of the mythical Agamemnon. Highlights include the Cyclopean Walls, the Lion’s Gate, the Royal Tombs (including those of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra), and the impressive Treasury of Atreus, a structure from the 14th century B.C.
Next, you will stop at the beautiful seaside town of Nauplia, the first capital of modern Greece, with its Venetian fortress, Palamidi, and the fortified islet of Bourtzi. After a walking tour of the city, enjoy lunch at a seaside restaurant with stunning views of the Bourtzi islet in the middle of the port. If you choose the option without lunch, you can spend more time exploring the city or relax with a coffee. Continue your journey to Epidaurus to visit the ancient theater, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Known as the birthplace of Asklepios, the son of Apollo and a celebrated healer, Epidaurus was the most famous healing center of the classical world. The theater is one of the best-preserved classical Greek buildings and is still used today because of its incredible acoustics. Your day trip will conclude with a return to Athens in the late afternoon.
