Explore where they worked and relaxed, including the famous Addison's path, where C.S. Lewis and his friends strolled on many midsummer evenings to discuss their ideas. When open, peek inside Tolkien's Exeter College, which hosts pre-Raphaelite art and has an exquisite garden. Accompanied by an expert local tour guide, take in the sights where they worked and relaxed, including the pubs they enjoyed. Also, enjoy a refreshment stop, which is optional on the tour. Discover the Inklings, a group of writers from the University of Oxford, while learning about the history of the city and the university. Join a walking tour to see inspiring locations related to C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, including the pubs where they relaxed. The works of C.S. Lewis have inspired many religious thinkers since, and his Narnia series of books has delighted generations of children. J.R.R. At Magdalen, explore a beautiful medieval hall, chapel, and courtyard, as well as lovely gardens and a deer park. Walk along Addison's Walk, a path where C.S. Lewis and his friends often strolled on summer evenings to share ideas. If it is open, you can peek inside Tolkien's Exeter College, which features pre-Raphaelite art and a lovely garden that has appeared in several TV shows like Inspector Morse, Lewis & Killing Eve, and A Discovery of Witches. Your knowledgeable guide will take you through Oxford, showing you many famous sights in addition to the colleges. Visit St. Mary's University Church, where C.S. Lewis developed his thoughts through sermons. You will also learn about Cardinal Newman and the Oxford Martyrs—Latimer, Ridley, and Cranmer—during the time of 'Bloody Mary.' You can choose to take a refreshment break during the tour. Many who join this tour are theology graduates, but the guides are not always religious. It is a wonderful opportunity for bookworms to delve into the past and uncover Oxford in the early 20th Century.

  • Please select min. 4pax while making Shared booking and 3 pax while making Private booking.
  • Magdalen College entry might not be possible on some dates but if you book on such a date, we will instead reserve entry to visit Tolkien's Exeter college.
  • We will only enter Exeter colleges, as & when it’s open to the public- which varies seasonally.
  • Children may join this tour but there is no child pricing as this tour is aimed at an intellectual audience to discuss the writing and ideas of Lewis and Tolkien, with a focus on Lewis's religious ideas.
  • Magdalen & Exeter Colleges are generally always closed to all visitors over Christmas between about December 21 and December 31, reopening again from January 1st.
  • When Magdalen is closed, on any such dates, we will replace with entry to Tolkien's Exeter College which also hosts pre Raphaelite art and an exquisite garden which has also featured the filming of several tv shows such as Inspector Morse, Lewis & Killing Eve plus A Discovery of Witches.
 

Cancellation Policy

  • You must cancel your booking at least 72 hours before the start time of the activity/experience to get a complete refund.
  • If you cancel your booking less than 72 hours before the start time of the activity/experience, you will not be reimbursed.
  • Any modifications made less than 72 hours before the start time of the activity/experience will not be allowed.
  • The cut-off times are determined by the activity/experience's local start time.
  • This activity/experience is weather dependent. If it is cancelled due to inclement weather, you will be given an alternate date or a full refund.
