Itinerary
Situated on Monaco's famous Rocher, the Oceanographic Museum, created by Prince Albert I, Prince Albert II's great-great-grandfather, has been keeping an eye on the oceans for over a hundred years. Known worldwide for its knowledge, the museum displays more than 6,000 sea creatures. The building itself, from the outside to the inside, is designed to remind us of the ocean.
Opened on March 29, 1910, this sea-themed place, with 6,500 square meters for everyone to explore, is like a special place that teaches people to care for and understand the oceans around the world.
Start your adventure by looking at a really big tank with 450,000 litres of water and lots of sharks and other sea animals. There are also smaller tanks with many different creatures from the sea, like tiny ones to really big sharks.
Next, have fun in a special experience where you can touch and learn about more than 2000 sea animals. Find out about a prince named Albert I and the exciting trips he took to learn about the sea. You will see cool things in the museum, and it will make you think about how amazing the ocean is.
Go on a special mission to the North and South Poles. There are five places to explore, and you can see how beautiful and delicate the Poles are. You will feel like you are right there with special things to look at, like objects, papers, and videos.
Discover something new called "Immersion." It is a temporary exhibit that gives you a special and interesting experience. It's like you're in the ocean, hearing and seeing everything, and it helps you understand more about the mysterious parts of the sea.
Learn about animals that live in the Mediterranean and the homes of coral reef creatures. Go to the Shark Lagoon, where you can see amazing sharks up close. They are really beautiful and majestic.
Finally, finish your journey by looking at a big space, about the size of three basketball courts, all about the sea. See how they made homes for sea animals, and learn about Prince Albert I's important things in the museum.
Get close to sharks and piranhas, watch the funny clownfish, and see the amazing stonefish with its dangerous spines. Do not forget to admire the cool boxfish and the strange sea horses – they are all part of this exciting journey!
Starting in April, discover the fascinating Mediterranee 2050 exhibition. Begin in Oceanomania, where each object reveals a unique story, before exploring Oceano Monaco to learn about the Princes of Monaco and their dedication to the Mediterranean. Continue your journey aboard the Oceano Odyssey for a deep dive into the sea’s mysteries, then unwind on the rooftop terrace overlooking the Pelagos sanctuary. Don’t miss the chance to take on the fun challenges in My Oceano Med for an engaging finale making the experience both adventurous and inspiring for visitors of all ages.
