Overview

The Harry S Truman Little White House is a wooden duplex in Key West, Florida, that was built in 1890 as the first officer's quarters on the naval station. The house, situated on the waterfront of the harbor of Key West, has been converted into a single family dwelling and has hosted many distinguished guests, including Thomas Edison and several US Presidents. Visitors can see the home where Harry S. Truman used to relax and rest, while our history tellers share fascinating stories about him and other notable figures who stayed at the Little White House. Itinerary

Over the years, the house has hosted numerous notable guests, including Harry S. Truman, President Dwight Eisenhower, Thomas Edison, President John F. Kennedy, British Prime Minister Harold MacMillan, and President Jimmy Carter.
 
The house was a favorite relaxation spot for Harry S. Truman, who spent a lot of time there. President Dwight Eisenhower also used the house to recover from a heart attack in 1956, while Thomas Edison used it during World War I for depth charge research for the U.S. Navy. During the Bay of Pigs incident in 1961, the house was the venue for a meeting between President John F. Kennedy and British Prime Minister Harold MacMillan.
 
The Little White House continued to be the quarters for commanding officers until the closure of Truman Naval Station in 1974. In 1996, President Jimmy Carter and his family spent their holiday at the house and celebrated New Year's Eve with loved ones. The Little White House also hosted a private dinner for the Joint Chiefs of Staff from the U.S., Great Britain, Germany, and France and their spouses in April 2000.
